Owners, Not RACI Charts

Operating modelsMay 2026·4 min read

Accountability is a person with a name, not a row in a matrix.

RACI Charts Diffuse Decisions

Four letters spread across five teams means everyone is involved and nobody moves. The chart answers "who should feel included" when the only question that matters is "who decides, and by when".

One Owner per Outcome

The owner is not necessarily the person doing the work. The owner is the person who reports the number, escalates the blocker, and cannot say "that was another team". One outcome, one name. If you cannot fill in the name, the initiative is not real yet.

Wire It into the Week

Ownership only works when the rhythm makes it visible.

  • One owner per initiative, named in the plan everyone sees.
  • The owner reports the number weekly, in person.
  • Escalations resolve in days, with a decision in writing.
  • When ownership moves, the handover is written down.

Delete the matrix. Write the names.
